Many people tend to confuse Gate Valve and Globe Valve (stop valve), and their appearance is sometimes quite similar. But in fact, the two are completely different. Globe Valve is more suitable for adjustment. For example, if you want to reduce the water flow, it can be adjusted little by little. Gate Valve is a full-open and full-close type, and the flow cannot be adjusted.
This is an overlooked issue. Although the Gate Valve has a simple structure, its opening and closing process is not easy, and it has to be turned many times. Moreover, frequent opening and closing will cause the internal sealing surface to wear quickly, resulting in loose closure and water leakage. So if you need to operate frequently, you generally won’t choose Gate Valve.
In fact, it is quite suitable. Because its sealing relies on the gate and the valve seat to fit tightly, the higher the pressure, the tighter the seal. But the premise is that the material and design must be selected correctly. For example, when used on steam pipes or high-pressure oil pipes, materials that can withstand high temperature and high pressure must be used, otherwise problems will easily occur after a short period of use.
Many people ignore this issue. Although Gate Valve is bidirectional, it is still recommended to install it in the direction marked by the manufacturer under some special working conditions, especially in systems with flow direction requirements. Correct installation can extend its service life and reduce the occurrence of failures.
In the final analysis, choosing Gate Valve also depends on the occasion. Water pipes, oil pipes, and gas pipes can all be used, but each medium has different requirements for materials and structures. There are also factors such as frequency of use, whether it is high temperature and high pressure, and the size of the pipeline space that must be considered clearly. Not all Gate Valves can be "all-inclusive", and choosing the right model is the key to saving worry.
